Problem

Create space within government, policy making bodies and on public domain for community-led dialogues and collaborations that will influence opinion and shape inclusive governance processes and policy and striving to work towards and build the necessary synergy between communities, concerned stakeholders, the media and civil society through collaborative processes, advocacy and capacity building at various levels

Objective

Setting up of community structures such as Single Windows and Helpdesk across wards, settlements, cities and districts from over eight states to strengthen social inclusion of vulnerable women across many schemes and programmes. Capacitate community representatives to facilitate the process of social inclusion. Enable women, girls and marginal communities who are victims of abuse and violence to form support groups, develop collective strength to challenge such violations and secure the necessary legal aid and services

Description

Firstly setting up mechanism like Single Window to ensure convergent action on issues of the urban poor Secondly by addressing the needs and priorities of the vast mass of unorganized workers. Thirdly by focusing on the sanitation needs of the marginalized in unauthorized and authorized settlements. Fourthly by mainstreaming of socially marginalized communities and groups such as sex workers, transgender, sexual minorities, injecting drug users and people living with HIV who are at vulnerable to stigma and discrimination, abuse and violence and at risk of HIV and other related infections Fifthly by institutionalizing community‐engagement through the creation of Community Based organizations (CBOs) and ensuring their involvement in all key processes and building their ownership in determining the approaches to be adopted to engage with the many issues that they are battling with Sixthly, creating a holistic response on the issue of the gender. This includes many issues such as: Reducing the biases and stereotypical representation of women and marginal communities on mass media; enhancing gender and development perspectives in initiatives such as HIV prevention; curbing the practice of sex determination; focusing on girls’ and women’s education, reproductive and sexual health and rights of urban poor and building capacities of community-based organizations Sector / Subsector
